Abstract

Carl Fredrik Hill's poetry in the manuscript Dikter och författarskap på några språk oscillates between a more traditional poetic linguistic mode and bold experimentation. This shift has, in the limited previous research available, primarily been understood as a transition between a language of health and a language of disease. In this article, Hill’s poetry is read without the interpretive framework of illness. The guiding question is what constitutes the otherness in Hill’s innovative linguistic mode if it is not understood as a consequence of illness and loss of control. With the help of Deleuze and Guattari’s concept of minor literature and Jacques Rancière’s concept of the aesthetic regime, the article demonstrates how the renegotiations of the poem’s representative functions are central to understanding Hill’s other language. Key to these renegotiations are Hill's syntactic creativity, his use of neologisms, and the impact of rhyme’s auditory logics on meaning.
