Berättandets semantik i bibelhebreiska
Sipper i ljuset av narrativ teori

I denna artikel undersöks frågan vad det är att berätta en historia i Gamla testamentet genom att titta på betydelsen av ett bibelhebreiskt lexem, sipper i ljuset av lexikal semantik och tre parametrar i narrativ teori: historia, text och situation. Förhållandet mellan betydelserna ”räkna” och ”berätta” problematiseras, och det konstateras att förhållandet inte är självklart etymologiskt. I ljuset av narrativ teori förstås sambandet bäst plurativt. Det konstateras vidare att
sipper är en bred term för berättande i både prosa och poesi samt i berättande underhållning. Detta motsäger till viss del Robert Kawashimas tes om att Gamla testamentets prosaform förebådar den episka berättarens död. Sist undersöks sipper inom de semantiska fälten ”kommunikation” och ”tala”. Sipper står här för människans berättande, och negeras aldrig. I de semantiska fälten verkar sipper indikera ett intresse för talakten att berätta som sådan, inte bara innehållet.
